It’s Not Your Job to Compare Yourself

In a world where you can see into 1,000’s of classrooms, it’s hard to not compare yourself to others. Matthew 5:17-20 says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Not an iota, not a DOT. God’s got it all under control. Do you realize it is not your job to be perfect? Not for your students, not for your admin, not for your family. You are human. God is the main character here on Earth.

Isn’t it good news that God doesn’t compare us to each other? Hard to believe, but it’s true. He takes us as we are. And that’s what you need to do in the classroom.

  • Don’t compare your classroom to others.

  • What you do reflects you. If you’re not a primary bright colored person, then don’t put those colors up in your room!!

  • You don’t need to be like everyone else. If you want to get your work done on planning, then put a note on your door that says you are not available to talk right now.

  • Stop the social media scroll. Maybe it’s time to do a social media clean out and start following things that don’t have to do with school.

Remember, you need to Teach & Trust that He has you right where you need to be. As the saying goes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, so stop comparing yourself!

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” ~Matthew 5:17-20
